Pliny Fisk
Middlebury's Christian Soldier

Born in Shelburne, Massachusetts on June 24, 1792. Fisk graduated from Middlebury College in 1814. His desire to spread the word of God led him to Andover Theological Seminary School, where graduated from there in 1818. He was paired with Reverend Levi Parsons to do missionary work in Palestine in 1818. Fisk spread Christianity in many countries, including, Greece, Egypt, Palestine, and Syria. Fisk was fluent in Italian, French, Greek, and Arabic. He died in Beirut, Lebanon on October 23, 1825 at the age of 33. Even on his deathbed, Fisk stayed faithful to God and to his calling as a missionary.

"God has given us intellect, that we cultivate and use it in his service. But in order to become what ministers should be, I am persuaded that we have much more need of moral, than of intellectual cultivation, and I believe, that as the millennium approaches, there will be a change in the whole system of education; and it will be conducted more as if it were intended to raise up men for the service of Christ, and for holy action." -Pliny Fisk
