Soil Description

Dr. Chris Fastie says:

And even though there was a rock down at about 30 cm, we got about-- we got about 35 cm continuous from the top surface of the moss and shrubs down to about about 20 cm of peat and 15 cm of silt. The peat is very dark, brown, it's fibrous near the top, and then about half way down, it gets very dense and silty, and it's still dark. It's very organic silty soil. And at the base there's some pebbles mixed in. At the bottom of the hole there's a big rock, which is why we couldn't go any deeper. Metamorphic schist. Very nice golden color to the rock.
