April 25th, 26th, 27th

Sunday Apr. 25th It has been a pleasant day clear & bright, but not very warm, & some windy. We work in the sugar place most all day. we sugar off the rainy sap, stuff, rather black & nasty. 40 lbs; gather 64 pails full Sap run fast. Are we wrong to work on Sunday----I think not. The New Testament does not, neither does common sense forbit it. Yet it is well to observe a day of rest from labor, on many accounts ----- Ellen is improving on the harp daily, Peaks brook roars. Monday 26th. No freeze. & sap slackens its pace We work hard at it all day. Gtaher 66 pails full. Not very pleasant. What strange weather for April


Tues. 27th. Cloudy & cold. Sap dont run much We gather & boil all day. C. taggs sheep. P.M. Snow has been fast leaving us theres few days & water running swiftly down the hills. The pastures are nearly bare but not caused by very warm weather. We had a short but furious hail storm to day, with violent wind. Some rain. The water is up to the bridge again. Dan. Belknap & I go down to S. Burnhamps, the water being in the road, we climb on the fence. [code].
