July 12 continued

We have had some pleasant times of late, 2 weeks ago last Sat. June 26th. We had a ride up to Williamstown Gulf Springs. 5 couple of gay fellows, & lovely lasses vig. D. Burn & Ellen. J. Dewey & sister. C. & Emily P. Geo & Em. J. Smith & myself with Miss Tucker. (the school teacher) We had pleasant times both in riding & at the Hotel. We took dinner, visited the spring where it bursts deliciously from the ground among the rock Sung some. We extended our ride up to the pond rested in the shady & gulf & past down by to E. Bethel & around the square & to home which we reached about dark. [code] sociable & [code] such happy times don’t come often & people live so isolated & aloof from each other, that we don’t enjoy near as much happiness as we should if our system of society was right or if they Man is a social being & he ought to live so as to exercise his natural desires. -------[not legible]---- Geo has a good many swarms of bees come out.
