June 17th continued, July 12
And when all earthly joys are gone
Its comforts from our soul have fled
A home beyond the skies well seek
No sorrow there is known nor bitter tears are shed

In the sunshine of life we may well be happy, upon this earth, and so we may all through our days, while here on earth we stay. If society was organized aright, & man lived aright & with love towards each other, there would be no misery, it is all on account of mans folly. Oh may the time soon come when man may learn how to live & enjoy life.
Saml Keith is married to day. He seeks for happiness with a wife may he find it. But the sun has set & I must go to milking. C. & C. have made a sheep pen & we shall wash them tomorrow. We worked on the road Tuesday Have overworked our tax. The town have a got a job to do between the 2 bridges We have 2 lamb cossets which are noisy – How sweet the robin sings –

July 12th 1847 I have delayed writing in this book for a number of weeks, because of my love of reading at leisure, & distaste for writing. I have been pretty busy at work hoeing, shearing sheep, &c. &c. Our corn is very good do potatoes, do grass; but we are now having a very dry time
