March 16th continued

happy in Heaven with holy Angels, where I hope to meet her when I am called to be here no more. A crowded house showed the sympathy of the people & many tears were shed. These were a large number of mourners present, who were mourners indeed. I rode with Ellen. Rev. Mr Cutler of Strafford preached the funeral sermon he spoke well, from the words in Rev. 3-20. "Behold I stand at the door & knock" Vc. He spoke of the many virtuous & good qualities of Laura, & told his hearers to imitate her. Oh! may [code]. He read some verses which she composed on the death of Mrs. L.S. Brooks, beautiful verses, & beautifully read. But why dwell longer on the bad scene. She has gone & we cannot recall her. But the happy days I have spent with her, & also some with her, & Horace, & George, but now the chair is broken, our family circle has changed. But such is life.---- Mr and Mrs Morey stayed here last night. are at A.P.S. to night. Mr Cutler stayed there to supper of which we all partook prepared by our kind friends, Mrs Tracy, Smith, Ainsworth & A. Noyes We sit sad around the fireside to night, father & mother feel very badly for their only daughter & favorite child is gone. I hope we may make up for her loss to them in part. But alas! I have no sister now!!!!
