...The guard said they charged 30 shillings ($7.50) for chartering the train. Dadie said he’d give him 30 shillings if he’d take us to Dornoch right away. But the station master said there wasn’t time to run 14 miles (there and back) in an hour.

 

Saturday August 14th 1909

      I got up early and played a match with Dadie before the ballot. He beat me 3 up and 2 to go.
     We had another match in the afternoon and he beat me 4 up and 3 to go. Afterwards I fooled around on the ladies links.
