Sled, ca. 1880

The most decorative sled in the Sheldon Museum collection, it is difficult to imagine whizzing down a snowy hill on this beautifully crafted vehicle. The dragon runners at the front of the sled conjure images of medieval knights and princesses.

This sled-like contraption was for the adventurous, requiring “guts” as well as dexterity. Could you balance on this while speeding down a hill?
