Roman jug
This stone table and tableware were found in Jerusalem and date
to the Herodian period. The pottery is called eastern terra sigillata ware.
The red wine spilled in Chapter 25 is of course a symbol of blood spilled.
Pilate's anger at his complicity in Yeshua's death is displaced onto the
slave. There is a similar scene involving wine in S. Chevkin's play "Ieshua
Ganotsri" (Sokolov, 547).
