Vladimir Statue
The statue of Prince Vladimir stands on a hill overlooking the Dnieper
river below. Technically the statue is a monument to the Baptism of Russia,
since Prince Vladimir was the pagan ruler who brought Christianity in its
Byzantine form to Russia. The statue was designed by Vasily Demut-Malinovsky
and cast by Peter Klodt, creator of the equally famous horse statues on
Petersburg's Anichkov Bridge. It was erected in 1853. |
