Image Manipulation :

While Photoshop 5 allows for text layer editing, Photoshop 4 does not allow added text to be easily edited. Fireworks however allows for many of its layers to be edited in a variety of ways. Below is an description of its drop shadow effects:

1. Open Fireworks and type in some text on a blank document (you have to click on the A tool bar to type text).

2. Choose Windows > Effects. Select Drop Shadow from the pop up menu. Apply the effect. Try different settings to see the changes (always click apply for
the effect to occur). To do the same in Photoshop, see: Photoshop 5.

3. Select the text that you had entered in Fireworks and double-click on it. Try the various text settings to see their effect (Photoshop does not allow for as much control over its text).

4. Look at the Middlebury College image to the left. Try to acheive the same effect with FireWorks tools.

(hint: to rotate text, chose Modify > Transform > Rotate 90 CCW)

5. Try to achieve the same effect with Photoshop 4 or 5 (see text in Photoshop 4).
