I am happy to acknowledge the receipt of another letter in the well known hands of one of my best friends (indeed I believe her to be the best) and to hear that she has _____ the fearful ordeal, and can (and does call me Brother, sister of the Eastern Stars allow one to congradulate you, I wish that I had been there on the occasion, should have liked some of that nice supper you tell about, but of course I did not think you had married my brothers, I think when you change your name it will not be _____, but if I was there now your fellows would have to walk chalk while they were aware I could keep my eyes on them, for if I have a sister I shall claim the right to protect her, that is if she is wishing. So it is cold there is it? Well it is not very cold here , but we have had one of the greatest snow storms ever seen in this part of the country, I guess, last Monday when it began and snowed easily all day Tuesday, it was eight and a half inches deep, yesterday it rained most all day, and today bas been misty, nasty day, the snow has nearly all melted and if there is not some mud I am mistaken after all there is not much mud here, because it is sandy, but where the sand is mud clay, it is as much worse than Shoreham mud as you can think. My hand is well but I can not say as much for my cold, but that will be all right in a few days, you say it is lonesome there, and I do not doubt it, it is here, and once in a while it seems as though I should have to go home anyway, especially in rainy, dark written, when it is pleasant the time goes fast if not as pleasance as in old _______. So Julia has gone, well I expect the next news I get will be that Lorette has gone (off with some nice young man) but remember she must not go with out the consent of her big brother George. Thank you for your compliment to my straw hat if I remember right I told you once when I was there you might have it didn't I? Would you? I presume a great many wish the same, but I cant see as it is any means an end than it was years ago no use crying about it though, I guess I shall have to go and see you, and try and learn some of that new music. Some of these evenings although I have nearly forgotten all I ever knew about music, but you need not be disappointed if I should not be there for a few weeks(or years). Yet, as usual there is no news here all the Shoreham boys are well as usual, the Capt was unwell two or three days, but is now as tough as ever, it is late and I must close, you see I have kept my promise this time as only received your letter tonight, remember me to love and all the good people of Shoreham. Write to me soon, and accept the love you're your friend and brother. Bye, George.
