And that many SchoolMasters were men of the morals, and their praying would dishonor religion, and leave unfavorable impressions on the minds of children. That it was not necessary in order to maintain authority. That Masters may implore a blessing secretly probably with more fervency. That in schools there were some, who would ridicule religion, and that praying before such would be like casting pearls before swine. It was queried whether it was expedient; and whether it was not a tradition of men. It was also asserted that schoolMs are commanded to pray in their school; and that tho the Pharisees prayed much, yet Christ pronounced a woe against them. The Affirmation was supported from the poll owing considerations, viz. That praying was important in order to good government; and that it was calculated to infuse the mind with awareness of religion, to leave lasting, serious, good impressions are this tender
