World War 1 Letters

During World War 1, Middlebury College created a War Committee which took on several responsibilities, but this committee's main purpose was to keep those students and alumni at war connected with home and the College. Letters were an important part of this process as several professors wrote to students stationed all over the world. Below are examples of letters written to students and alumni at War...
Professor Sanford (pictured right) was a commissioner for the Middlebury War Committee. He played a major role in keeping students and alumni at war connected with the College. The most common way of maintaining this connection was through the use of letters.
Professor Skillings (pictured left) was a major part of the letter writing process that went on during World War 1. Although not part of the War Committee, Skillings wrote several letters to students and their families with news of the College, War, etc...
