The barber who shaved me was another intelligent Dutch boy. He wanted

boy who was likewise very intelligent and who came to America and
went to Union College and became a Sigma Phi – and afterwards
a Professor and then a Colonel and killed in our war – that
was Col. Peissner. I would have told him about that if I had enough

I wont tarry on Frankfort a Main as I only staid [stayed] there the
night and part of the morning but will invite you take a little look
at Hamburg[.] The most noted and valuable spring here, the ________
spring is very potent and may be drink of only before breakfast. For
this reason the social life of Hamburg begins at 730 A.M. or even
earlier. At that hour the great orchestra begins to play in the pavilion
beside the spring every day in the year, and the strange sight may

morning to talk about their neighbors. A large covered walk lead to

The Prince of Wales was at spring this morning at 7.20 A.M. wearing
a light gray suit and alpine hat. With him was a pretty widow who
is said be an American heiress. So more is known of her by the people
here! Later in the day the Prince was seen by one of the gentlemen
at my table here in full prince albert suit and silk hat in the door
of his hotel - the Ritter Park House, showing two elderly ladies to
their carriage. One the empress of Germany[.] My table here is a sort
of old bachelors table. Mostly old men after dinner they usually feel
pretty good and in the smoking room their conversation is very entertaining[.]
