I have kept school 7 weeks and today commence on the last half of my time. I am keeping for $11 for every 26 days. Rather too small wages for me to do such hard work. There are many things about keeping school that I like. But the eternal routine of hearing the reading, spelling, and other lessons is enough to tire one’s patience, especially when combined with the governing of school, a task which I dislike and have not combativeness enough to do it well, but I think I am improving in this respect and hope to get along without difficulty, but Freeman Williams has left the school (and I am glad of it) because he could not learn anything, it was the fellow’s own fault.
