Carefully consider the following cross-sectional diagram of protein organization in a biological membrane, and answer all of the following questions.  Note that space constraints prevent all the –amino and –carboxy terminals from being labeled.

a. (9 points) Which of the six (6) numbered proteins are peripheral membrane proteins are integral membrane proteins?

b. (6 points) Briefly describe how you would test or verify your designations in question a.

c. (12 points) Hypothesize likely functions for proteins 1, 2 and 6 and briefly explain the bases for your hypotheses.

d. (5 points) Briefly describe how you might test your hypothesis concerning any one of these proteins.
