A number of Alaskan weather stations reveal a rise in temperature throughout the 20th century (Figure 1). Other examples from other weather stations in Alaska can be accessed by visiting the home page of the Alaska Climate Research Center at the University of Alaska. Reconstructions of climate history from tree-rings similarly indicate that the 20th century has been warmer than previous centuries (Jacoby and D'Arrigo).
Figure 1. Uncorrected summer temperature (average June-August in ºC) from the Fairbanks and Nome weather stations (data from the Alaska Climate Research Center). The line is fitted with simple linear regression; in both cases the slope is significantly different from zero.
