LOCATIONS
We are researching spruce forests
at treeline in Alaska. During the 1998 field season,
we visited 3 major areas of the state, shown with green arrows.

METHODS
We are learning how treeline
forests respond to changes
in climate by coring trees,
examining plant parts in soil samples, and planting seedlings
under experimental greenhouses in the tundra.
