Teller
lies between Grantly Harbor and Port Clarence, 72 miles northwest
of Nome. The boom from nearby placer mines around 1900 brought
up to 5000 people to Teller, but the current population is 262.
People rely on subsistence foods like fish, seal, moose, beluga
whale and reindeer. Over 33% of households make crafts to sell.
