Summary- Development along Route 7 South consisted primarily of residential farms up until 1944, with commercial developments first appearing between 1944-1962. Major commercial and industrial development occurred from 1962-1996 along the entire length of Route 7 South between The Centre Plaza (a.k.a. Ames/A&P shopping center) and Route 125. Residential development and the construction of farms have been sporadic over the years, but have been restricted primarily to the Foote Street, Schoolhouse Road, and Halladay Road corridors.

1853-1944	1942	Residential farms were the primary form of development along Route 7 south and the surrounding corridors up until 1944. Besides the school house at the corner of Schoolhouse Road and Route 7, no other form of development is visible.
1942-1962	1962	The development in the 20 years between 1944-1962 consisted primarily of the introduction of several commercial businesses along Route 7, the construction of the public works building, the solid waste disposal station, and the adjacent Green Mountain National Forest ranger station. The Maecliff Court residential development occurred during this period along with the construction of more residential farms along Route 7 and Foote Street.
1962-1974	1974	The construction of the Standard Register complex at the corner of Route 7 and Schoolhouse Road was the defining feature of development between 1962-1974. Several other industrial and commercial developments occurred along the western side of Route 7 between Schoolhouse Road and Foote Street during this time. Residential development continued along Route 7 and the surrounding corridors, especially Halladay Road.
1974-1978	1978	Little change is noticeable between 1974 and 1978 except for the expansion of commercial development at the corner of Halladay Road and Route 7 and the expansion of a residential farm at the corner of Foote Street and Schoolhouse Road.
1978-1996	1996	The primary development between 1978 and 1996 was the addition of both G. Stone and Fosters Motors car dealerships. Green Mountain Tractor was also constructed along Schoolhouse Road during this timespan along with some additions to commercial developments along Route 7.
