L.D. July 15:


     Preached to the family from Isa. 26. 9. – Lent the “ Star in the East” to Mr. Peter. – Spent an hour in teaching Richard the Catechism + ss. in Fr. + passed the rest of the day principally in my room.
     It is said that some Turks killed a Greek in the jandens yesterday, they began by cutting off his hands, then his feet + then his head. I have heard that 2 or 3 have been killed today. --- The Plague seems to abate. ---

Mon. July 16:


     This morning the Turks murdered 2 Greeks, one was selling vegetables near Mr. Lee’s + a Turk came up + shot him dead on the spot + remained quietly in the street smoking his pipe as if nothing had happened.
     It is said several have been killed since. – It is reported that the Turkish fleet has arrived at Seio on its way to Samos + that the Pasha has given orders to the troops have to march in order to join the expedition. -


Tues. July 17:


It is said that the Turkish fleet wh. is gone against Samos amounts to 60 sail among wh. are 5 ships of the line + 5 frigates – It is reported that this fleet has sunk the Russian vessel which made so much difficulty here + which sailed a few days ago. – It is reported too that the Greeks seeing that no -
