THE BLACK STUDENT UNION: ADDRESSING ISSUES

Newspaper Headline

The Black Student Union initiated public discussion of racial issues on campus. From national political debates to on-campus controversies, the BSU tackled any and all relevant matters. The BSU had one of the strongest voices of anycampus wide organization, and its members often expressed their opinions in the college newspaper, The Campus. Usually, BSU-sponsored articles were written by the president of the organization, but other members also contributed. As members of an under- represented population within the Middlebury community, black students sometimes expressed feeling slighted by the larger, white community. In two of the articles below, the BSU demands an apology for an injustice done to black students.
