33 seconds Dr. Andrea Lloyd says: Next year, our plans are to put a little greenhouse over half of the seedlings at each place and it will have the affect of warming air and soil temperatures by a couple of degrees Celsius, so 4 or 5 degrees Fairenheit. And, what we're hoping to learn with that is how it is that warming will interact with fire to affect treeline. People expect that if it gets warmer, treeline will move up. Spruce will start establishing at higher elevations and we don't know what effect fire will have on that process of spruce moving up. So by having both greenhouses and this fire treatment, we may be able to tease apart some of those questions as well. go to a directory of all audio files |
