Wind turbines offer several important environmental advantages over convetional power plants running on coal, oil, or natural gas; namely, they use no fuel and do not emit air pollutants, greenhouse gases, or toxic wastes.

Nevertheless, wind turbines do raise various environmental and community concerns. Before substantial investments are made in siting a wind turbine, these issues must be addressed in a detailed environmental impact assessment. This section explores these various impacts.
