Welcome!
Welcome to the Discussion section of the INTD0111 course website on "The Unity and Diversity of Human Language".
LAP
Has anybody thought about what language they'd like to adopt? If people post their preference then those who wish to adopt the same language can match up.

I forget if there were specific or general restrictions on which languages we can pick. Certainly well known languages or languages that we know are off-limits.

I'm initially interested in Ainu or Welsh, though it might be that neither is allowed.

Re: LAP
It's a good idea to use this discussion section to see who might have similar interests regarding the LAP. Hopefully, more people can post their languages of interest here.

As for Welsh, it's definitely out. We already talked about Welsh in class. Languages that we discuss in class won't be good candidates for the LAP.

Ainu, on the other hand, is a good language for the project. I guess Nick mentioned it to me today after class. He meant the Ainu of Japan. Apparently, there is also an Ainu of China. Basic info about them both are on ethnologue:
http://www.ethnologue.com/show_language.asp?code=ain
http://www.ethnologue.com/show_language.asp?code=aib

Hope this helps.

Re: LAP
Yes, Finnish is ok. We'll hardly mention anything about it in this course. People might know its name, but it's not really a familiar language to many people. So, you can work on Finish if you like to.
Ainu
I'd definitely like to do Ainu (the one from Northern Japan.)
The other one (in China) is related to Uyghur, I think, but if anyone is interested in doing Uyghur or a similar one, let me know cause I would definitely be down for that too.
Thanks,
Nick

I'd like to do Gaelic, and I need a partner, if anyone is interested

Re: LAP
Gaelic is sooo sweet.  If you are doing Irish, I have some sound files you could listen to (Pimsleur) that give you an idea of how crazy the pronunciation is.  Let me know if you want them :)  Cheers.

I'm still in need of a partner. Two langauges I've found that intrigue me are Ket and Beaver (or Dunneza), although I'm not dead set on anything. I think I'm mainly interested in indigenous languages. Any takers?

I still need a partner also. I would like to do a Native American Language (I have a couple in mind but am flexible).

Hi, just wondering if anyone still needs a partner- mine just fell through. I'm up for any language.

Let me know!

I really want to work on Chichewa. I had a partner, but she changed her mind . . . anyone up for it?
Assignment 3
Has anybody finished exercise 7 yet? I'm kinda stuck on it, and was wondering if anyone had any hints...
