8.i.b. Now consider the “longer-term” behavior of Band 3 protein, observed over a period of almost 3 min under conditions otherwise identical to those present during the previous experiment.  The video in this experiment was recorded at a rate of 4 frames per sec, and thus (at 30 fps), the particle’s movement is speeded up about 7.5-fold in the video.
When you have considered the behavior of this particle, and answered the questions, turn the page to consider problem 8.c.

  1. Describe the behavior of the particle in this video sequence, and compare it with the previous one.
  2. How might you explain any differences in its longer term behavior?  Propose a mechanism.
