WIND DIRECTION

Knowing the primary direction from which the wind comes is a valuable piece of information in determining the ideal location for a wind turbine. With wind direction data, the effects of wind shadows (areas behind large, obstructive objects in which wind speeds are reduced) can be minimized. Wind data from the micrometeorological station located atop the Middlebury College Snow Bowl indicates that the wind is primarily out of the southwest at 210 degrees. A standard deviation of 70 degrees indicates that this wind direction is fairly constant throughout the data set.
